The past six months since I launched my blog (I still love typing that; “my blog” – it sounds so awesome) have been amazing. Sure, I probably would have said that six months ago about the six months prior, and probably the six months that came before then, because I’ve never been happier since living in Australia. But the past six months have been particularly special because I’ve basically documented the shit out of them through my very own slice of cyber-space.
What started as a passion for sharing my Aussie lifestyle on my Instagram soon grew into my very own website – and whilst it has enhanced my obsession with Instagram, it has also encouraged me to be more proactive on Pinterest, Twitter and Google+. Being a Social Media Ninja for a career sometimes means the last thing I feel like doing in my R&R time is updating Social Media – which is why I took the decision not to launch a Facebook page for my blog. Whilst Facebook may be the world’s leading Social Media platform, I already manage around twenty accounts on a daily basis. So in the interests of keeping katierebekah.com.au a fun hobby, I’m happy with just a personal Facebook account for now! The same goes for Snapchat – there’s something quite intimate about that platform which I prefer to keep between me and my friends… Okay, okay – get your minds out of the gutter, not in that way! Although, maybe after a few vinos…
A lot of hard work, passion and sentiment goes into each and every blog I craft and it can be quite nerve-wracking publishing posts at times – because I always care too much about what people think of me. I don’t have the sparkling confidence that people often assume I have, therefore to read through the amazing comments which people feed back on my work really is incredible. Yes mom, that includes (every single one of) yours.
It’s been really insightful to scroll back through my blogs and reminisce for this post… I’m so proud of each and every piece I’ve published – and that I have stayed true to only posting about Australian adventures, lifestyle and brands. As my Social following progresses and blog publications grow, I am being approached more and more by brands and companies to feature non-Aussie products and services on my Social feeds or blog. This is of course very flattering, and may occasionally work on my Insta feed, however I want to stay true to the Aussie vision, identity and narrative that I’ve established for my blog. As I ofter joke with my girlfriends, “it’s a brand!” haha. Sorry if that sounds super wanky. I work in advertising, I can’t help myself.
I’ve never been in the blogging game for the $$$ or freebies (good job, as I wouldn’t have a lot to show for six months worth of work!) – but the concept of Influencer Marketing is making a fair bit of movement in the Marketing & Advertising industry right now, as many influencers/bloggers are sadly in it for the wrong reasons. Creative writing, photography, Marketing and Social Media are all absolute passions of mine, and all areas which I have both qualifications and heaps of experience in. So blogging as a hobby, and establishing my ‘brand’ came incredibly naturally to me.
If an Aussie brand/company which I relate to approaches me to collaborate, I am of course going to agree. But I’m also going to be completely transparent in my work. Four months after launching my blog, I was approached by Rottnest Fast Ferries who wanted to sponsor a blog post. Hello?! Best. Feeling. EVER! I couldn’t write ‘sponsored post’ enough on my Social feeds and blog – it’s the best compliment a blogger can get!
Okay, enough D&M already. I have heaps of exciting stuff planned for the next six months – including a couple more collaborations which I’m beyond excited about, and hope to have something even more special to celebrate my year anniversary on 1 October 2016.
But before I close, I wanted to share a few of my personal blog highlights/favourites to date…
^^Love Story // December 2015
One of the most special days in my life ever – forever documented. A reminder that true love really does exist ❤
^^Chasing Anya // October 2015
I love Anya Brock – I LOVE HER! I was so proud of this post – it took FOREVER to edit, but gained some amazing traction on Twitter!
^^ A Right Royal Show // October 2015
It was amazing to be able to share pictures of the Perth Royal Show with my mom and grannie back in the UK. They’d both heard me talk about the show after I first attended in 2014, so it was amazing to be able to show them what all the fuss was about!
^^ A Cocktail Degustation Wonderland // October 2015
Drink me? Yes please. My first cocktail degustation dinner ever, inspired by one of my favourite fairytales, at one of my favourite bars in Perth. How the pictures are in focus, I have no idea…
^^ Bon Yoyager // March 2016
My first sponsored blog post – and a fantastic day out to one of my favourite places in WA! Yay! Such a treat.
^^ Margaret River Memoirs // November 2015
Spending time Down South in Margaret River with three of my closest girlfriends for my birthday was unreal – we had SO MUCH FUN! There was just too much amazing content for one blog, so it kinda grew into three memoirs and a review! Hehe…
^^ NYE Rottnest Beach Party // January 2016
Rottnest is one of my favourite places in WA, and their NYE Beach Party really was like no other. Expect many more Rotto blog to come in the future!!
^^ Spiritual Gangster // November 2015
Such a fun day – and an incredible location in the Perth Hills. Look out for another Yoga Retreat blog coming later this month from the Cottesloe Yoga Retreat… Namaste!
^^ Spreading my Wings with SC Artistry // October 2015
This was a really fun post to edit – the SC Artistry girls are always so gorgeous to work with, and we had a heap of fun playing with make-up and creating this HAWT catwalk look for the 2015 Perth Fashion Festival!
^^ The Return to Atlantis // February 2015
This was probably the hardest blog to write of all. Atlantis is so close to so many people’s hearts, and has so much history, it took a whole heap of research and interviews to produce. The editing seemed to take forever… But the end result was incredible. The blog received heaps of amazing feedback and was shared across several super-influential Social Media platforms!
^^ The Sydney : Edit // December 2015
Ahh, Sydney. You’re pretty special! I could have written a million blogs about my visit there, but managed to squeeze it into one epic post and a whole heap of Instagram posts, hehe! I can’t wait to go back again soon…
^^ Yoga in the Dunes // February 2016
We seriously lucked out with the weather when we shot these pics. I really wanted an photography-based blog and boy did I get it – I was so happy with the result. Jeez, that sand really did get EVERYWHERE!
I really can’t wait to share more of my adventures with you all.
Here’s to the next six months!
