Welcome! Come in, come in… wipe your feet!! …Welcome to my very first post dedicated to my favourite new thing in the whole wide world… My house.
I love it. It’s absolutely amazing. I love it so much, I can’t stop looking at it. Which is a good thing, because I live in it, so it would be a little tricky if I didn’t like it. Or like looking at it… But you get where I’m going with this. It. Is. Perfect.
Granted, it took a little TLC (long, loooong days and nights, three tins of primer and 40 litres of white paint) to get the living areas, WC and master bedroom all fixed up – ciao forever, dark beige, brown and peach (!) walls (WTF were the previous owners thinking?!) – I just have the hallways, bathroom and spare bedrooms left to attack with my paintbrush and vision.
This house has changed my life. Like, literally changed my life. I used to get excited about cosmetics that sparkle and shimmer in Mecca, I now find myself drawn to the rainbow of cleaning products on offer Coles, each with a bigger and better promise that it shall make my kitchen sparkle and shimmer! Whilst I used to queue up in line at 7am on Boxing Day to get heels and gorgeous dresses on sale, this year I was fighting amongst the fellas to get a deal on a flatscreen TV and a Dyson. No longer do I have manicures – I have green fingers. I own secateurs, tree loppers and have an enviable range of protective gardening gloves. My idea of a wild night out is wrestling unruly bougainvillea outside in my back garden (Aussies say ‘yard’, I just can’t do it. I’m still too British). I know how to change a loo seat, (almost) maintain a pool and exactly which brand of ant killer is guaranteed to make those little fuckers suffer.
I grouted my own bathroom. Like, actually watched it on YouTube and just did it. I know! Risk taker! That was my last Saturday night… Grouting tiles like a pro whilst drinking vino. Oh, how times have changed. Indeed, I am a changed woman. Adulting SO HARD right now.
But the only thing about buying your first home is that you don’t really have that much to put in it. What may have been a good lorry load and (what felt like) 2,871 car trips between suburbs actually didn’t seem to go that far. Mainly because it was mostly clothes, candles and succulents. I had a fair amount of furnishings and decor brought over from Britain in my mom’s 20ft container which was shipped over to Aussie in 2015 – but there were still some obvious gaps in the vision for Chez Katie… and so I took to Gumtree.
For a month between having my offer accepted on the house and actually getting the keys, I became a woman obsessed. I got a steal on an amazing desk, found two cute new bedside tables and even a chic $50 office chair, which actually ended up costing me $250 because of a speeding fine I scored on the way back from picking it up (oh, such amazing timing financially). However, I was still a sofa, coffee table and $200 short, and so my obsessive searching continued… which is when I stumbled upon Gogo Furniture.
It was their replica Noguchi coffee table Gumtree listing that drew me in to the Gogo-rgeous world of awesome designer-inspired furniture available at Gogo, which is located in Osborne Park – and it was love at first sight! Gogo was conceived 4 years ago, set up by a small team of people in WA with a shared passion and love for good quality, modern furniture. Their ‘showroom’ is actually a pretty cool experience, with every product style and colour option on display in an industrial warehouse, styled with chic accessories and home decor which is also for sale. The best bit? The money they save on being ever-so-effortlessly ‘no frills’ is passed on to the customer. Their prices are sweet as.
I decided (eventually) on the Lancaster Chaise Lounge in light grey and of course the replica Noguchi coffee table in ash. I also fell in love with the cute Kenya Armchair in holly grey for my bedroom – which actually doubles up as a very stylish clothes horse 95% of the time!
The Gogo furniture and accessories range is ever expanding – with some exciting new styles on order for 2017, including their first ever velvet sofa which is due to arrive next month! So head on down and get a stylish steal today – I’ll be the one at the front of the queue for a velvet sofa.
Thank you to Gogo Furniture for sponsoring this post! Esther, you’re a babe x
