As a long-term ambassador for Perth salon legends Maurice Meade, I occasionally receive products to try and review to maintain the healthiest hair. I was lucky enough to be one of the first in Australia to experience Kérastase’s new Chroma Absolu range, hitting Maurice Meade salons this June…
The Chroma Absolu range was created to empower colouring with confidence, without fear of damage. Their bold tag line assures us; “You Dare, We Care!” – and after a few weeks of trialling the new range, I’m head over heels. Here’s why…

Whether you’re loyal to your hair colour or change the shade of your tresses on a whim, the basis of Chroma Absolu is a deep understanding of the challenges that colour-treated hair has – and the promise to shield and protect our luscious locks against them. I’m talking environmental enemies like UV damage, humidity, heat, even oxidative stress – all of which, coupled with the serial bleachers and colour cheaters among us (you know the ones; experimenting with every colour of the rainbow, or flitting between light and dark… guilty AF 🙋🏼♀️) – this generally results in breakage, accelerated colour fading, dried out/coarse tresses and (my worst enemy) unwanted brassy tones.
I’m not alone when I say for many, our hair is a huge part of our identity – an expression of who we are, and how we want the world to see us. If you’ve coloured your hair for as long as I have, you’ll know how important it is to take care of your tresses. The main issue I’ve experienced having my darker hair lightened with balayage colouring techniques over the years is hair oxidation – those damn unwanted brassy, copper tones. The more I colour these tones away with fresh, cool blonde – the more sensitised my tresses became to breakage and rough texture. It’s a vicious colour journey merry-go-round which, until now has been managed through a multitude of products, treatments and salon visits.

After just two weeks of using Chroma Absolu, I noticed a significant difference in my tresses. My hair was stronger, more supple and thanks to the Fluid Gloss treatment, some much-needed softness and shine had been injected back into my hair too. My colour is looking its radiant best – and between us, I’m well overdue a colour touch-up… It also smells absolu-tely gorgeous with top notes of floral orange blossom and caramel – grounded by earthy musk tones. But that’s not the best bit. The best bit is the years of nerdy research and science that built the foundation of this colour-empowered technology…
Now when I say ‘Amino Acids’, ‘AHA’ and ‘Lactic Acids’ – you instantly think of skincare, right? Yep. What I bet you didn’t know however, is that the same rules apply to haircare. Mind: blown.
Powered by science, Chroma Absolu’s ingredients include a trio of powerful healing acids that are adored in skincare, but also work wonders for hair too…
- Amino Acids penetrate the hair from the inside out to increase strength and resilience
- Tartaric Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) – a powerful antioxidant from the same family of ingredients we rely on to exfoliate our skin, reducing oxidative stress and shielding against external damage
- Lactic Acid is a gentle fibre resurfacer, helping to transform, smoothen and seal fibre surfaces
In short, it’s literally a facial for your hair.

Here’s the Chroma Absolu routine that worked for me – bearing in mind, your routine can be as unique as you and your colour! I used Bain Chroma Respect Shampoo every wash for the first few weeks of my Chroma Absolu journey, before re-introducing my regular shampoo. I’m still obsessed with Kérastase’s Genesis range, so alternating the two will be a beautiful balance for my tresses. I’ve used the Fondant Cica Chroma Conditioner as a staple, rotating weekly with either the Masque Chroma Filler or Soin Acide Chroma Gloss to further penetrate and nourish my tresses. In my eyes, this gloss is the range’s hero – a resurfacing, high shine rinse treatment which parallels an in-salon treatment in the comfort of your own bathroom! Fluffy slippers compulsory. Finally, I spritz on some Chroma Absolu Thermique Treatment serum to seal in the love and shield my hair against styling and heat up to 230° 🔥
Kérastase has literally created magic and bottled it in Chroma Absolu. This entire range works in synergy, restoring hair from the inside out, resulting in stronger, shinier and healthier tresses. The cute pink bottles are super ‘grammable too.
Worth the hype? Absolu-tely.

Another quick disclaimer! I’m super lucky to have been an ambassador for Maurice Meade since 2016 and regularly receive products to try and review to maintain the healthiest hair – I just tend to have a habit of falling in love with EVERY Kèrastase product I try! Guilty.
