It’s Been A Hot Minute

26.07.2025

Somehow it’s July (??) and life’s been a blur of books, work, side hustles… and chihuahuas in sombreros. I’m sixty-six books deep into my Shelf Care series, Finn’s just wrapped a tequila-fuelled shoot at Pink Taquito, and we’ve even squeezed in a few cheeky getaways. Consider this your official life pup-date!

Okay, OKAY – I mostly just wanted an excuse to post these ridiculously cute pics of Finn...

Birthday Birdie

24.07.2018

It's my little pink guys birthday!

Thor turned three today and it was of course the event of the year at our house. We had snuggles, cheeps and enough seeded cake (which was worse than gluten free) to last a lifetime. I also happened to be sporting some serious pink tresses thanks to a very colourful shoot with the Maurice Meade team at the weekend - just in time for his big day!

It was all just so flocking fabulous, I couldn't resist a quick little post...

Kenickie-Bird

21.06.2018

It’s bittersweet that I should be writing this post about Kenickie. I’ve had my blog for almost three years now and this is the first time I've chosen to write about him. Exclusively I mean - the little rascal was forever popping up in my blogs, along with his bros Thor and Finn… But I never dedicated a blog just to him.

Only now that I no longer have Kenickie in my life do I write about how much the little pikachu featherball meant to my life...

“If you love something set it free. If it comes back it’s yours. If not, it was never meant to be.”

We’re all familiar with this sentiment... But what if you accidentally set it free, then embark on a mass-Facebook campaign to find it again? It still totally counts as being ‘meant to be’, right?

This week I spent 24hrs without this little guy after he flew away. I'm relieved to say he's now home safe and sound after his sporadic adventure, but I genuinely don't think this would have been possible without the incredible kindness, support and compassion I experienced from Perth people on Facebook. I honestly never thought I'd see him again.

Prayers do get answered - I'll be paying this incredible miracle forward for sure...

Over The Rainbow

21.12.2016

On an average Thursday, back in July, it decided to pour down as I left the office. The heavens literally opened. Suddenly, the SUV in front of me came to an abrupt stop. There was a tiny green bundle in the middle of the road, just metres away from us, absolutely soaked as the rain pelted down from above. It was a baby Rainbow Lorikeet.

I jumped out of the car, grabbed a towel from the SUV in front and picked the freezing little bird up. Bundling her into the car with me, I spoke to the stunned little bird softly all the way home so she could become familiar and relaxed with the sound of my voice. Upon arriving home, I held her in front of a little portable heater to get her warm with one hand, as I frantically Googled what the hell to feed her with the other.

Birthday Boy

24.07.2016

I couldn't resist posting about this little dude's first birthday... C'mon now, you all know what a crazy bird lady I am!

If you didn't already know, Thor literally flew into my life at the end of last year - on Halloween to be exact. He was just over three months old when we got him, and me being me (birthdays are just my favourite!), I wanted to firm up a date for his special day.

So when I did the math, I arrived at around July 24 - which really made me smile as that was the same date as my beloved grannies birthday...

Thor.

06.06.2016

The one thing I couldn't quite get my head around when I first moved over to Australia were the 'tropical' birds flying around the Aussie skies. Birds of every colour, varying in size (and sound!), literally flying free. I’ve always loved birds - I love everything they represent; to be wild and free. Many cultures believe birds symbolise eternal life; the link between heaven and earth.

I still remember the first day I saw a galah at Mullaloo Beach on my first day in Australia - I was instantly in awe of these beautiful, cute and playful pink and grey birdies and they have remained my favourite Aussie bird ever since. I never would have imagined what joy you can get from owning a birdie (or two) - they are such loving, comical and adorable creatures.

Let me introduce you to the main man in my life, Thor...
