My latest collaboration came together, as they so often do, through the old ‘gram. Local make-up artist Cat reached out by commenting on one of my posts, and we soon began emailing to arrange a date for us to meet and ‘get creative’ together! Within a week, Cat had a full styled shoot arranged and collaborations set up with Perth photographer Terry Lok and hairstylist Rachelle Lord. I know, très excité!
I was keen to do the shoot at the beach – it’s my favourite place in the world, no matter what the season, and recommended Ocean Reef due to its amazing cliffs, scenery and quiet nature. We are so lucky to live on the northern coast of Perth, which has in my opinion some of the most gorgeous, picturesque beaches. So Cat went for a stormy-glow look, with heaps of silver, grey and earthy-peach tones. I love how she did my eyes and made my cheekbones pop! Imagine the nicest, sweetest person you know. Well, Miss Cat really is that lovely. I literally have the biggest girl crush on her! We had so much fun getting ready for the shoot, playing with make-up, giggling like teenagers and listing to Swifty… Tay-Tay fans reading this (you know who you are) will have already spotted the initial inspiration behind our styled shoot from the name of this post – which was inspired by the mood in Taylor Swift’s ‘Out of the Woods’ video.
We shot this a few weeks back and were just so lucky with the magical weather. It was a moody Sunday after Perth had been thrashed with like, a full week of stormy-stormy weather. We weren’t sure whether we were going to even be able to shoot at one point. But we totally lucked out with stormy blue-grey skies, the moody silver-grey ocean and luscious, mossy sand dunes on the Ocean Reef cliffs. We were even treated to a few bursts of shimmering peach and copper sunbeams as the sun set on the weekend.
Rachelle kicked ass with my hair – how she managed to get my tresses to stay wavy and withstand the stormy elements that Ocean Reef beach threw at us that afternoon is beyond me. Usually after a location shoot, it’s amazing to just stand under a nice hot shower to wash away product and make-up – however, I actually managed to get another day out of my hair, strutting into the office the next morning with particularly glam (wild?) hair for a standard Monday.
Hopefully the pictures below are testament to how amazing Terry Lok was to work with! It’s very hard to get into ‘model mode’ on location when you’re not at ease with the person behind the lens. Terry was passionate, expressive and open to creative ideas and I loved every second of working with him.
I selected two gorgeous dresses to wear; this nude beaded one shoulder fairytale dress and a flowing mint green Grecian maxi dress. Two very different looks which, coupled with the amount of amazing shots we got from the afternoon, has meant I’ve decided to post two separate blogs… So you’ll have to stay tuned for the next one!
Enjoy! xx
