My name is Katie Rebekah Osborne, I have a British accent and have lived in Perth, Western Australia since February 2014.
I work in Social Media for an amazing WA company, which basically means I get yelled at by my boss if I’m not pinning, hash-tagging or filtering (you get the idea) all day. Every day I’m encouraged to spread my creative wings and I absolutely adore what I do.
This blog has been a happy accident for me, conceived ultimately as an innovative extension of my Instagram @KatieRebekah, coupled with the desire to creatively showcase my adventures Down Under… and isn’t WA just the Perth-ect canvas?! Well, as my Shelan Creatives piece above quite rightly points out, Perth actually is the New Black, you know.
As an early adopter of Instagram (I’ve worked in Digital/Social Media Marketing for a decade), my posts have always been carefully crafted to offer a glimpse into my life and adventures. It’s always been hands-down, my favourite Social Media platform. I just love the creativity it inspires, the incredible amount of content available at any one time, but mostly how it makes the world a smaller place. I enjoy expressing my creativity through the platform (and really everything Instagram encompasses), however the question I am regularly asked is if I love creatively expressing myself so much, why I don’t I edit a personal blog.
For years I have toyed with the idea of setting up a blog of my very own. Working in Social Media makes it an obvious avenue, right? I enjoy reading blogs from across the globe, follow more than I care to mention (on Instagram!), and have collaborated with heaps of bloggers on numerous work projects over the past six years; pulling together briefs and concepting creative angles for whichever account I happened to be working on at the time. And sure, I must confess I often thought ‘I’d love to do that!’
My move to Australia (gorgeous story behind that one) ‘almost’ prompted me to get blog-happy, but then I arrived and… well, just kinda got side tracked with all the amazingness (and vino) that WA has to offer. However, finding myself living in one of the most beautiful places in the world, coupled with my passion for photography and creative writing only served to further amplify my Instagram feed, with each day spent on the flip side of the hemisphere presenting me with more and more (and more) breathtaking discoveries and memories.
But sometimes a moment captured in a photograph deserves more depth and substance than just a few filters and a witty caption. Living on the other side of the world to my family and friends in Britain only served to further emphasise this.
And so, over lunch with a very good friend (and super-fly web developer) on a sunny Wednesday afternoon last month, he convinced me to go for it. So here I am, with my very own slice of cyber-space!
I intend for this little blog of mine to be a natural extension of my Instagram feed, my memoirs of living Down Under and, well, me. Which means, yes, there will be the odd profanity. Well, on occasion a good fucking expletive is the only way to express yourself. Sorry mom.
I really hope you enjoy!

Hey Alice, thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog and for leaving such a gorgeous comment! There are a lot of negative people out there in the social sphere, and I must admit I was very nervous about launching this blog for that exact reason. So your comments actually mean more than you could imagine.
Thank you for brightening my day – I hope you will visit often.
