Over the past couple of weeks, if I had a dollar for the amount of times I’ve been asked whether I feature in the new Maurice Meade TV commercial – I’d be buying the next round of bubbles (I said a dollar, people – let’s not go crazy). This has amused me no end – primarily because I never realised how many people actually watch ‘Married at First Sight’ – which is the prime-time TV show that the gorgeous new Maurice Meade adverts debuted on earlier this month… But also because, YEAH IT’S ME ON A TV AD WHICH PLAYS ON PRIME TIME TV! Hehehe.
When the dream team at Maurice Meade reached out late last year to see if I would like to feature in their 2018 Blonde campaign, alongside six of their gorgeous regular models, I jumped at the chance. The concept of the campaign was to be focused around blondes – the different ways to “wear” blonde, and how being blonde makes me feel.
Some of my earliest memories are holidaying on the British coast with my family. I’ve always loved being by the ocean and would spend hours running around on the beach where my mom would squeeze lemons into my hair so the sun could ‘kiss’ it. I was always super blonde as a kid anyway, right up to when I got highlights for my sixteenth birthday – and the cheeky citrus trick has always stayed with me.
When I think about it, growing up, most of my favourite icons happen to be blonde: Kate Moss, Cameron Diaz, Bowie (from time to time) – and of course Miss Monroe. And what eighties child didn’t grow up listening to Blondie? As I hit my late twenties/early thirties, my hair became darker – but I stayed committed to my endless blonde love affair with natural highlights. Even when I grew them out into a balayage after moving Down Under, I still clung to my sun-kissed blonde ends.
My hair is, and always has been, a huge part of my identity – and moving to Aussie really changed my attitude towards my hair. I instantly embraced the beachy, outdoor lifestyle – ocean swims, coastal runs and exploring all the stunning beaches WA has to offer. Generally the blonder my hair is the more it lightens in the sun and so since moving here, its had heaps of dimension. My subtle babylights give my blonde the little nudge it needs to naturally lighten in the sun – although I’ve had to really up my haircare game to keep it healthy and strong with the constant exposure to heat, sunshine and the ocean.
Speaking of the ocean, my favourite, signature look is hands-down effortless beachy waves – my Brit obsession for years was Kate Moss and I’ve been massively crushing on Elle Ferguson’s Aussie tresses ever since I crossed into the southern hemisphere. Colour-wise, I’ve always favoured the natural look. The more subtle the colour, the less maintenance which suits my hectic/active lifestyle perfectly so I can leave the gym or beach with my hair wet or in a top knot just as easy as I can style my hair for a cute date night with the boy or for cocktails with the girls after work.
I’ve been a huge fan of Maurice Meade since I first walked into their Whitfords salon four years ago, in search of a new HBF (hairdressing best friend), after bidding farewell to my old HBF when I left Britain. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to work with the MM team on a couple of collaborations – but this one has to be my favourite!
As I say in the TV commercial, a woman’s hair is her crown. It completes any outfit – and let’s face it, nothing beats a good hair day, like another good hair day. A woman’s relationship with her hairdresser therefore is one of the closest, honest bonds you can have outside of a relationship. You have to have trust, confidence and faith in each other. Cheating is a huge no-no (they’d totally find out), they know all your secrets – and they’re probably one of the few people who actually know your real hair colour. Their craft and passion is making your hair work to its full potential – your hair becomes their masterpiece as much as it is yours, so finding one who just ‘gets’ you is one of life’s little necessities.
Maurice Meade has been a leading name in the Aussie hairdressing game for almost five decades. They have nine salons across Perth, and a passionate team of the very best talent in the industry. Oh and the models you see in their adverts? THEY’RE LITERALLY THAT STUNNING IN REAL LIFE. Seriously, it’s ridiculous. I’m so incredibly proud to be an ambassador for such an authentic, iconic brand – and to feature in their 2018 Blonde campaign and TV commercials which you can view below (yay!). Their Blonde Collection Lookbook is the ultimate go-to for blonde inspiration, packed full of fab tips for caring for blonde hair and getting the most out of your colour.
Thanks to the team at Maurice Meade, the Aussie sun is my hair’s new best friend… No longer do I need to squeeze lemons in my hair – it’s never been brighter or more sun-kissed.
So here’s to blonde bombshells everywhere! Whether you were born a blonde goddess, or totally cheated nature to go golden – they always say blondes have more fun. And I’d agree xo
Thank you to Maurice Meade for sponsoring this post (and making me a TV star, whoo!) Thank you also to Dan, Craig, Sarah and Brionny for making me look so goddamn fabulous and helping me to fit in with all those gorgeous models!
