Four Perth creatives, the exquisite scenery of Ocean Reef Beach and some magical, stormy weather…

This blog is a follow up to my Out of the Woods post from June, where I was lucky enough to collaborate with three very talented Perth creatives. The collaboration came together, as they so often do, through Instagram. Local make-up artist Cat reached out to see if I’d be interested in being photographed for a styled shoot (err, hello? YES!), and soon set up a shoot date with local Perth photographer Terry Lok and hairstylist Rachelle Lord.

The beach is my favourite place to be in the world, no matter what the season – and was therefore the natural location choice for this shoot. Ocean Reef Beach is just stunning… Ridiculously full of texture, with stretching beaches, rocky coves and sandy cliffs. We were so lucky with the moody winter weather! When we shot these, Perth was in the middle of a week of epic storms – so we were treated to grey stormy skies, swirly silver ocean and magical sunbeams peeking out from behind the rolling clouds. Storms are literally my favourite weather mode. I love the electric blue-grey tones of cloudy skies, the freshness of the air after a heavy downpour and the silvery ocean swirling and crashing angrily onto the shore.

Cat went for a stormy-glow look, with heaps of silver, grey and earthy tones and Rachelle worked effortless beachy waves through my tresses – perfectly reflecting the stormy-stormy weather. As you will now know, we went for two dresses that day; a beaded nude net one shoulder fairytale for Out of the Woods, and a mint green Grecian maxi for this shoot, which I’ve affectionately dubbed Stormborn. Yep, massive GOT fan right here.

The long, flowing grecian cut made this dress the perfect choice to wear for our beach and ocean shots – the movement of the fabric with the elements and contrast of the rich mint green against the cool, silvery beach and moody, reflective ocean turned out just perfect. This dress is particularly special to me as I wore it to give my mom away at her wedding last year.

We actually shot Stormborn before shooting Out of the Woods for sunset, as Terry and I were just getting into the swing of things. I think this shows through the candid, reflective essence which has been captured in each picture.

Something about these pictures just made me want to save them for last.
